bukkkitforge API doesn't mean 'big-and-clunky-pile-of-code' - it's an Application Programming Interface or somethingthe code is mostly just forge wrapper code.

bukkirforge I quite liked how you did not need a modded server to join a craftbukkit server as well as the idea of plugins etc and the bukkit community is a vast resource for plugins. All plugin downloads can be found at githubincluding the Essentials port look in the plugins folder. So you can be happy.

If it says coremod, put it in coremods. Mod crashes forge server on startup. I tried to use this in my mod bukkitforgw Chunk Protection, but it doesn't seem to work.
